New York, New York

New York City is home to one of the world’s premier cultural institutions. The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met) educates, inspires, and connects visitors with art, history, and creativity across centuries and civilizations. Museum AV creates experiences that allow curators, educators, scholars, and presenters to communicate inside the museum and around the world.
Ford AV completed a specialized audiovisual systems upgrade in two education and presentation spaces: the Sacerdote Lecture Hall and the Art Study Classroom. The rooms serve educational and curatorial functions within one of the world’s most iconic cultural institutions.
“Delivering a fully integrated AV system inside one of the world’s most iconic museums required precision, flexibility, and close coordination across every phase of the project.”
— Ford AV Project Team
The project focused on modernizing and simplifying the existing audiovisual infrastructure. All systems are integrated into a control room, allowing staff to monitor, manage, and operate the spaces from a unified control environment.
Integrated AV over IP System Design for Lecture Halls and Museum Education Spaces
Each space has a modernized audio and video system to support lectures, presentations, and hybrid instructional use. The Sacerdote Lecture Hall received an audio system paired with Extron amplification and Extron loudspeakers to ensure consistent speech intelligibility and coverage across the room. The room was upgraded with a Panasonic 4K projection system and projection screens to improve visual clarity and presentation quality.
The Art Study Classroom received a similar system architecture. Bose loudspeakers were selected for their compact form and adaptability to constrained ceiling conditions. The Extron control ecosystem enabled full room control from the master control room via a centralized Extron touch panel interface. This allowed museum staff to operate lighting, audio, video routing, and system monitoring across both spaces without requiring on-site intervention. An Extron streaming solution enables direct broadcasting of presentations and events to external platforms such as YouTube and Facebook. This expands the museum’s educational reach beyond the physical classroom environment.

High-Performance AV Programming, System Commissioning, and Control Room Integration
The Met AV upgrade required advanced system programming and commissioning across both rooms and the central control environment. The programming phase required coordination with museum stakeholders to refine operational workflows and align system behavior with institutional requirements.
“This was an extremely detailed programming effort that required close collaboration to ensure every operational workflow functioned exactly as intended.”
— Ford AV Project Team
Once programming was approved, Ford AV engineering and field teams executed rapid on-site implementation to meet the project deadline. The result is a fully unified control environment that simplifies the operation of two highly active educational spaces while maintaining professional-grade audiovisual performance.
Museum AV System Performance, User Experience, and Institutional Impact
The completed audiovisual upgrade has improved the functionality and usability of the Sacerdote Lecture Hall and Art Study Classroom within The Met’s educational programming ecosystem. High-resolution projection systems, distributed audio, and centralized AV over IP control streamline daily operations and enhance presentation quality for both internal staff and visiting presenters.
The system also enables expanded digital outreach through integrated streaming capabilities, allowing the museum to share lectures and programming with global audiences. From a user experience perspective, the simplified control interface and centralized monitoring have reduced operational complexity while increasing system reliability across both rooms.
“It was rewarding to see the system fully operational inside such a historic and globally recognized institution, knowing the technology would support presentations and educational programming for years to come.”
