Ford AV hosts IEEE First Level Scholarship Contest
Oklahoma City
Division employees help judge competition
OKLAHOMA CITY — April 6, 2009— Project Engineer Mitch Warren assisted in judging the First Level, Section/Branch Contest for the IEEE scholarship competition – a competition he won when he was a student at Oklahoma Christian University in Edmond, Okla.
The first level of the competition was February 5 and was hosted by Ford Audio-Video’s Oklahoma City Division located at 4800 W. Interstate 40. Other Ford AV employees helping judge the competition were Barbara Harper, Division Manager and Natasha Wright, Project Engineer.
“I won this same competition when I was an electrical engineering student at Oklahoma Christian with a presentation on fuel cells,” Warren said.
There were two applicants for this local competition: Yves S. Mujyambere, Oklahoma Christian University student with a presentation on Dolby Digital 5.1 and Shawna Ong and Greg Harrison, University of Oklahoma Students with a presentation on Explosively Formed Projectiles.
The scholarship’s purpose is to improve communication skills of undergraduate IEEE student members.
Students must be an undergraduate and an IEEE student member (or pending). The papers and presentations must cover technical, engineering, management, or societal aspects of subjects relevant to the IEEE. Candidates were scored based on both their written work (55%) and verbal presentation (45%).
Warren said both applicants did a great job on their presentations and if asked, he would judge the competition again.
The presentation by University of Oklahoma’s Ong and Harrison moved on to the Second level, Area Contest. Candidates winning at the Second Level advance to the Final Level which will be April 19 in Kansas City, Mo.
